Customize your track's sectors (splits)

Where splits come from, and where they don't

Until you draw any, a track has a single sector — “S1” — covering the whole lap. That is not a placeholder waiting to be filled in from somewhere else; there is no built-in default sectoring. It is the same state you get back to if you clear your splits later.

Splits are separate from the turn markers you may already see on the map and the charts. Those come from LapLift's own reference data for the track and are always shown, whether or not you have drawn any splits of your own. Clearing your splits never removes them, and drawing splits never moves them — the two layers just sit side by side.

Add, move, and delete splits

1. Right-click anywhere on the track map and choose “Add split here” to drop a new split boundary at that point.
2. Drag an existing split along the racing line to reposition it — release to save the new position.
3. Right-click the map again for “Delete nearest split” — it removes whichever interior boundary is closest to where you clicked, not necessarily the sector you clicked inside.
4. Right-click for “Clear all splits” to remove every custom split at once and go back to the single whole-lap sector.

Every split snaps to the nearest 5 meters of track distance, so it lands on the same point every time regardless of exactly where you clicked or dragged to. The start/finish boundary itself can't be deleted — “Delete nearest split” only ever removes an interior split you added.

Prefer a button? The “Splits” control in the Track Map panel's header opens the same menu without the right-click. Pin a point first — click the track or a chart — and it can add a split at the pin or delete the one nearest it.

What your splits feed

Your splits become the sector boundaries the Split Times panel reports against: one time per sector, per lap, computed instantly for laps you have loaded. The same boundaries also draw as bands across the lap charts and the track map, so the rest of the analysis view reflects whatever sectoring you've set up.

Alongside your own times, the panel tints each sector's time by a crowd percentile — how that sector time compares against other drivers who have logged the same track — once at least a handful of other drivers have data for it. With too few other drivers to compare against, a sector just shows your time with no color.

Saved automatically, per driver

Every add, move, delete, or clear saves in the background the moment you make it — there is no save button. Splits are named automatically in order along the track (S1, S2, S3, …) every time you save; there is no way to rename a sector.

Splits are yours alone: they are stored per user and per track, so another driver looking at the same track has their own sectoring, not yours. “Clear all splits” persists the single-sector state immediately, the same as any other edit — there is no undo, so redraw the splits if you clear them by mistake and want them back.
