Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

LapLift (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the LapLift platform at laplift.app and the LapLift Sync mobile app (together, the “Service”). This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. The contractual terms that govern your use of the Service are in our Terms of Service.

The Short Version

The rest of this page is the detail behind those five points.

How LapLift Makes Money

We think you should be able to tell how a product pays for itself, because that is what actually determines how it will treat you. LapLift is free today because lap comparison only works when there are laps to compare against, and we are still building that density. It is funded by its founder and by voluntary supporter contributions.

Our intended business model is a paid tier for heavier features — things like video export, advanced analysis, and team and coaching tools — alongside a free tier that keeps the core comparison useful, plus paid custom dashboard work for racing teams. Selling user data, licensing it to manufacturers, insurers, or data brokers, and running advertising are not part of the plan and are prohibited by our Terms of Service, which is a binding commitment rather than a statement of current intent.

Data We Collect

Account information

When you sign in we collect your email address, either directly via email/password authentication or through Google Sign-In. This is required to identify your account and secure access to your data.

Session files and lap data

You upload motorsport session files through the web app, or the LapLift Sync app downloads them from your data logger over Wi-Fi and uploads them for you. Uploaded files are associated with your account and used to:

How We Use Your Data

Machine Learning and Model Training

We do not use your session files, lap data, or account information to train machine-learning models, and we do not provide that data to any third party for their model training. If that ever changes it will be opt-in, announced before it takes effect, and off by default — we will not reinterpret this policy retroactively to cover data you uploaded under it.

LapLift does compute statistics across laps — medians, ranks, percentiles, corner-speed distributions — to power its coaching and comparison features. Those are aggregate calculations over the fleet of uploaded laps, not models trained on your data, and their output never identifies an individual driver, car, or unshared lap.

Email Communications

We send two kinds of email. Account and service emails — email verification, password resets, and notifications you’ve enabled (such as laps shared with you) — are necessary to operate your account and cannot be turned off while your account is active, though you control notification preferences in your account settings. Product-update emails are occasional messages about new features; every one includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops product emails without affecting account or service emails. We never sell your email address or share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or license your personal data to third parties. Your email address is never shared. Lap times and session data may be visible to other users if you choose to share or publish them — you control the visibility of each lap individually, and the default is private.

We use Google Sign-In (Google LLC) for OAuth authentication. When you use Google Sign-In, Google’s own privacy policy applies to that interaction. We also use error-monitoring and hosting providers that process data on our behalf under contract and may not use it for their own purposes.

Your Data, Your Control

Data Security

All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using platform-provided secure storage (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain).

Data Retention

Your session data and account information are retained for as long as your account is active, or until you ask us to delete them — see Your Data, Your Control above.

Children’s Privacy

LapLift is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Changes that would materially reduce the protections above — in particular the commitments not to sell your data and not to train models on it — will be announced to account holders by email before they take effect.
